Book Besties was born the way most dangerous habits start — with “just one book.”
For Kezia, that book was ACOTAR. Two years later, that innocent read had spiralled into a Kindle (for “saving money”), a deep love of special editions, and an all-consuming obsession with finding the next book that would absolutely ruin her in the best way. As a 32-year-old mum of two, books became more than a hobby — they became an escape, a comfort, and a full-blown passion.
Living an hour away from the nearest indie bookstore made supporting small businesses harder than it should be, and that’s when the idea clicked. There was a gap. A need. A space waiting to be filled by people who genuinely get book lovers. Book Besties was created to bring indie books closer to readers and to build something that feels personal, welcoming, and unapologetically obsessed with stories.
Enter Lemi — best friend, business partner, and kindred spirit. What started as constant book rambling eventually turned into Lemi picking up a book “just to see what the fuss was about.” Now? She’s just as unhinged as the rest of us. The darker, weirder, and dirtier the book, the better. Lemi is part of the LGBTQ+ community and is deeply passionate about creating inclusive spaces where everyone feels safe, seen, and celebrated.
Between the two of us, we’re mums, partners, best friends, and lifelong readers raising boys who are also best friends — because of course they are. Book Besties is an extension of that found-family energy.
Our mission is simple: to create a bookstore where stories meet their people. Right now, that looks like carefully curated reads, indie author love, and a community that feels like home. In the future, it looks like a physical space filled with books, coffee, laughter, and late-night conversations about morally grey men, plot twists that wreck you, and stories you’ll never stop thinking about.
